Get involvedMake new friends and explore your interests. College will provide an unlimited amount of opportunities for you to find something fun and exciting to participate in. If the possibility arises where your specific interest isn’t represented then you can create a club of your own! By pursuing college activities outside of your classes, you will learn a lot about the activity, and more importantly, a lot about yourself. Academic organizationsMeet students who are on the same wave length regarding academics through honorary societies, clubs and associations for academic areas of study. Club sportsAre non-varsity teams that have coaches and hold regular practice sessions. You can pursue your interests and passions with club or intramural sports. This is a great way to stay active and try something you never had the chance to participate in before. Diversity organizationsThese are groups that not only provide academic and cultural support for students from diverse backgrounds, but it also helps to create a secure community. These organizations work to promote cultural consciousness to the entire school and give support to those trying to increase cross-cultural understanding on campus. General and special interest organizationsFrom campus-wide publications such as The Collegian student newspaper and The Drift yearbook to the Butler University Student Foundation (BUSF) and Colleges Against Cancer, there are numerous causes and efforts that could use your participation. Greek lifeFraternities and sororities are there basically to enhance and support the college experience. They do everything from charitable events to intramural sports to study groups to social events. Greeks encourage all of their members to get involved on campus. They are also a good way for people to make friends. Performing arts organizationsNumerous opportunities are available for students to participate in and/or attend productions created by the theater clubs. If acting isn’t your forte there are opportunities participate in dance, choir, glee club and many more. Political organizationsBoth the Young Democrats and College Republicans are active on campus. Many colleges have programs to supports worldwide human rights. Religious and spiritual groupsDeepen your faith and nurture your spirit with organizations that bring together students to practice their religion or continue study in a particular area of interest. There are many activities that you can participate in and you will have a chance to meet like-minded individuals on campus. Residence hall organizationsOpportunities to meet new friends, influence policy development and increase your leadership skills are available. The halls are more than just a place to sleep and study you can have the chance to get involved and play part in shaping your dorms community. Service organizationsGiving back to the community is an important aspect of student life for some students, at any college you chose to go to you will find opportunities to join an organization of students who share a similar mission as you: to give back to the community.
